Research Interests

Dr. Hanan Taib’s research interests encompass diabetes mellitus, obesity medicine, lifestyle medicine, metabolic health, and evidence-based primary care, with a particular focus on the prevention and management of obesity-related metabolic disorders. Her academic interests include anti-obesity medications, GLP-1 receptor agonists, diabetes technology, continuous glucose monitoring, insulin pump therapy, diabetic complications, and treatment outcomes in Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. She is also interested in the application of digitally based monitoring, lifestyle interventions, and behavior-change strategies to improve obesity and diabetes management in primary care. In addition, her interests extend to value-based healthcare, healthcare quality improvement, clinical epidemiology, and the development of patient-centered clinical pathways that integrate multidisciplinary lifestyle and metabolic care. Her work particularly contributes to understanding diabetes and obesity management within Saudi Arabian and broader Arab populations.

Biography

Dr. Hanan Taib, MD, is a Consultant in Diabetes and Family Medicine and a Diabetologist based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She currently serves as Manager of Lifestyle Medicine Clinics and Deputy of the Lifestyle Medicine Fellowship Program at Prince Sultan Military Medical City, where she is involved in leading multidisciplinary lifestyle medicine services, with a particular focus on obesity, metabolic health, lifestyle modification, and behavior-change interventions. Her clinical interests also include integrating value-based healthcare principles into primary care and clinical pathways.

Dr. Taib has specialized training in diabetes through the Saudi Clinical Fellowship Degree in Diabetes at King Fahd Medical City, awarded through the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. She is also pursuing a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Epidemiology at McMaster University, strengthening her expertise in clinical research methodology, evidence-based medicine, and the evaluation of healthcare interventions. Her additional professional training includes certification in obesity medicine through SCOPE, the OPAL obesity management education program, a Value-Based Health Care Center Europe Yellow Belt, and certification in Professional in Health Care Quality (CPHQ).

Her research interests span diabetes, obesity medicine, lifestyle medicine, metabolic health, diabetes technology, anti-obesity medications, and value-based care. Her published work includes research on anti-obesity medications in Arab countries, continuous glucose monitoring using the FreeStyle Libre system in patients with Type 2 diabetes, subcutaneous semaglutide and diabetic retinopathy, insulin pump knowledge and attitudes among adults with Type 1 diabetes, and the role of lifestyle medicine and digitally based monitoring in obesity management within primary care.

Dr. Taib has demonstrated active engagement in international scientific communication through oral and poster presentations at major international conferences, including the Advanced Technologies & Treatment for Diabetes (ATTD) Conference in Italy and Spain and the ACLSM Conference in the United States. Her academic work reflects a particular interest in translating evidence-based diabetes and obesity research into practical clinical care, particularly within primary care and lifestyle medicine settings.
